Medical Malpractice Law
Overview
Most medical professionals care deeply about helping their patients recover from injuries and diseases. Not every tragic medical outcome is caused by malpractice. Jurors are quick to tell you that medicine is “a practice,” not perfection. But errors in medical judgment are evaluated against a thick gray line, known in the industry as the “standard of care.” When a medical professional’s behavior violates or falls below the standard of care, that professional is liable for the resulting harm. These violations can cause serious injuries or death. When that happens, injured patients have a legal right to pursue financial compensation for damages.
In almost any medical malpractice case, we retain an independent medical expert to review the matter and determine whether medical malpractice occurred. We are very selective about the medical malpractice cases we take. If there was a failure to meet established standards of care, you have a legal right to pursue financial compensation for damages including medical and rehabilitation costs, lost wages and lost future earning capacity, pain and suffering, and more.
