Bicycle Accidents
Overview
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in a typical year, nearly a thousand bicyclists are killed in the United States. And, in California alone, that number is over 100. Given the dramatic increase in cyclists—in recent years San Francisco has seen a 50% increase in riders—that number is unfortunately likely to increase.
Drivers of cars, trucks, and other vehicles often do not enjoy sharing the road with bicyclists, but the law is clear: bike riders have a legal right to use public roadways, and drivers of other vehicles must respect that right. When they fail to do so and a bike accident results, those who caused the accident can be held financially responsible for damages.
If you suffered a serious injury in a bike crash or if a loved one was killed in a bike accident, you may be able to recover financial compensation for your injuries, pain and suffering, lost wages, and property damages.
