CHP Officer Killed in Off-Duty Motorcycle Accident

John Fanene, a 14-year veteran officer with the California Highway Patrol (CHP), was killed in a horrific motorcycle crash on Highway 12 near Fairfield.  Fanene was off-duty when his personal motorcycle, a Kawasaki Ninja, was clipped by a pickup truck that had turned in front of him. The impact threw Fanene off his motorcycle into the street. He was then hit by a car traveling in the opposite direction.

Fanene’s collegues remember a man with ‘a big heart’ who ‘wore his badge with pride’.  He worked at the CHP truck scales along I-80 in Fairfield. The CHP continues to investigate the causes of the crash.
